We Asked The Parts Department At Ron Tonkin Dealerships To Sell Us Their Oldest Part

This "antique" can of carburetor cleaner had been on the shelf more than 218 months

We've been working with Teresa, Parts Manager at Ron Tonkin Auto Group in Portland, OR, to sell their stock that's more than 12 months old. DealerMine Co-Founder Steve Bakker had the idea of buying their oldest part to wrap up as a present for the office "white elephant" gift exchange.

Teresa found a can of Mopar Fuel De-icer And Carburetor Cleaner that had been on the shelf for more than 218 months. That's more than 18 years. But we suspect it's been on their shelf much longer than that, since the expiration date on the can is 1991.

Could it actually date back to the "age of the carburetors" in the late 1980s? Nobody knows for sure.

But we do know that if we didn't buy it as a gag gift, it had 0% chance of selling. The Tonkin Group has recently listed $50,000 in obsolete parts with us, with more than a third of it alread sold. We're helping them replace slow or non-selling parts with fast moving replacements at 50% off.

Holding on to obsolescence never pays. The opportunity costs and holding costs can quietly kill your bottom line. At DealerMine we work to maximize our customers opportunities for sales and profits by turning their dust collectors into something that will create positive ROI for both the department and the dealer.

Run the numbers for your dealership.

Then contact us at 1-888-BUY-PARTS (289-7278) to start selling your old parts today.
